Whenever I mention my depression or my feelings of despair, people often suggest trying to live in the present moment, or meditate, or breathe, or practice full awareness, but whenever I am in such a bad state, these things only seem to make everything worse.
I have tried meditating and breathing in the past and it helped me tremendously when I was anxious or stressed from life events or work. However, it has almost never helped me in feeling happier.
It always just felt like a lot of effort for almost no benefit, oftentimes leaving me worse off because it drained most of my energy for the day.
Now I do believe it can help alleviate a lot of bad emotions, and heighten your awareness and your mood even if I deeply believe all of these things won’t solve the inner darkness within me.
It’s more like these things tackle the symptoms rather than the causes, like medication, but there’s something deeper down that I need to address and I want to focus on that as much as I can to one day be able to let go and live in peace.
Meditation won’t solve my darkness, but it can still bring a bit of light.
Thanks!
