Modern life can often feel boring, with routine taking over and the same old stuff prevails over new experiences. In such moments, one can often feel unfulfilled, bored or even lifeless…
One may then yearn for something new and force themself to try new things everyday, but it all just seems superfluous and they just can’t seem to take advantage of the value such experiences bring.
They may find it really hard to get out of this bored mood. All of that got me thinking and I realized something. I realized that getting sick or hurt can trigger some kind of Survival Mode, and it felt like I could enjoy life in a fresh new way.
It sometimes feels like I need that primal push of survival to revitalize myself and become grateful for everything that I have. It’s definitely weird, because getting sick or being hungry or hurt or physically exhausted sucks, but I think it makes sense somehow.
Have you ever noticed how good you feel after finally getting back to normality when you were sick for weeks?
Or how a workout will destroy your entire body, but you’ll feel great about it afterwards, like you feel the pain and soreness but somehow enjoy it?
Or when you are extremely hungry, and then eat after being empty for so long.
It does seem like overcoming hardship allows us to better enjoy our “normal” boring state, which we often take for granted. It’s only when you are sick, that you truly value how healthy you were before becoming sick.
Survival Mode in a way pushes us forward, towards something better. When life is too comfortable, we don’t really have anything to push us, and it can feel boring and lifeless. In a way, I guess I am grateful about hardship, and even happy when I encounter it.
With all this, the next time I feel that life is boring, I will try to think about everything I have, and especially good health, which is one of the best states of being in existence, and will hold onto it.
Thanks!
